One Finger Death Punch 2 Switch NSP Free Download Romslab For all of the hard work, physical preparation, and learned technique that goes into high-level combat sport, it's all about two basic things: hitting and not getting hit. It's an appropriate analogy with which to start a review of One Finger Death Punch 2, where an increasingly elaborate fighting game plays out through just two buttons. Y and A. Attack left and attack right. That's all you need to learn in order to play Silver Dollar Games' chaotic sequel. Mastering it, on the other hand, will take considerable practice and attention. Your little kung fu stickman stands ready at the centre of the screen. Enemies fly at you from left and right, with varying load-outs, combat styles, and stamina levels. When they encroach into your two striking zones, the appropriate directional button will land an attack. Strike too early or too late and you'll sustain a hit. Whatever you do, you mustn't button mash, as the game repeatedly warns you. The basics of the game don't really change beyond the odd unlockable special attack or bonus section, such as a horse-riding jaunt through enemy lines, or a unique face-off that requires you to ditch the previous advice and mash those buttons. What really varies here is the quantity, speed, and nature of the opposition forces. Some will arrive with multiple hit bars, requiring successive taps to dispatch. Others will throw weapons from outside of striking range, which will either be blocked, dodged, or returned with interest depending on their colour.

Indeed, there's a definite rhythm action vibe to the whole game.

Still other enemies will initiate a brief QTE section where you must rapidly match a series of button prompts, like a demented beat-matching game. While you're not matching the beat of the music as such, there's a familiar zen-like state into which you'll find yourself slipping during your best runs. When you successfully switch your brain to neutral, relax the grip on your Switch, and unleash a volley of unreturned strikes, One Finger Death Punch 2 is at its absolute best. Things get rather intense as more and more variables are introduced, though you can always crank the speed down (or up) a notch with the left directional buttons. Countless incidental details and modifiers are introduced to keep things varied, including range-extending weapons, guns, and one-off special finishers. Gal Gun 2 Switch NSP

It's not a flawless combo, though. While the game's basic graphics are knowingly naff and amateurish, they're still, well, a bit naff and amateurish. There's a deliberate Flash game aesthetic at play here that helps with its speed and legibility, especially in handheld mode, but it's not pretty. True, the developer mixes things up and keeps you on your toes with new twists and additions – as well as a couple of bonus modes (including an endless Gauntlet mode and co-op multiplayer) – but you're still essentially pressing the same two buttons again and again. Thankfully, it's always an awful lot of fun to press those two buttons. One Finger Death Punch 2 offers a one-two combo that might be simple, but boy is it effective.

The game begins at a surprisingly leisurely pace as it introduces you to its mechanics,

Which initially seem far too simple. Enemies will run towards you from the left and right sides of the screen and, once they’re within range, you press the relevant bumper and your little stick figure dude will hit them. Easy. Then the game introduces green enemies that require more than one hit to go down, then blue enemies that swap sides after each hit, enemies that throw weapons or shoot at you, which can be either blocked, dodged, caught, or deflected depending on what colour they are, and it all starts to feel a bit more complex. Then it introduces enemies that have their own little mini-games and bosses that go through random combination of three of all of these gameplay elements in a row. Game Builder Garage Switch NSP

It certainly looks incredibly impressive on screen, as your character jumps and kicks like it’s a fight scene from the Matrix whilst legions of stick figures fall before him. The 2D buildings in the background are destroyed as you fight only to be replaced by more ill-fated constructions, but you barely even register how badass it looks because this game is somehow so gripping that all you can see is the next enemy. After you’re done with the tutorials, the game starts to speed up and by the end of the first map of the campaign you’ll be completing all of the above in random combinations without skipping a beat, because if you skip that beat you’ll get a face full of fists almost immediately. It really does get incredibly fast at times, but thankfully the game is pretty forgiving.

Of course, there’s a star rating of your performance that will drive you to seek perfection.

On top of all of this, which is enough to carry most games, there are different modes across levels that force you out of your comfort zone. Deadly Target requires you to kill enemies that are carrying throwable weapons and then use them on foes with targets across their chest. Ghost rounds render the player character invisible, and Total Blindness turns all of the enemies invisible. There’s a mode called Perfection where you aren’t allowed to be hit even once and another called Acceleration that has the same one-hit death rule, but also rapidly increases the speed of incoming enemies as time passes. I don’t want to give everything away, but these alternate modes can drastically impact how you approach combat, and they help keep the experience feeling fresh and fun throughout. Once you make your way across the campaign’s world maps, you’ll also be treated to a plethora of post-game content. This stuff ranges from Survival, where you’re fending off an endless onslaught of enemies until you die, to a mode called No Luca No – which serves as a callback to one of Silver Dollar Games’ earliest releases on XBLIG from the Xbox 360 days – involving a giant cat standing in front of the screen and blocking your view. These offerings aren’t quite as substantial as the campaign proper, but they do provide some fun in chasing high scores and hoping to stake your claim on the leaderboards. The pace is mercifully broken up a bit by a wide variety of absurd abilities that can trigger. These serve not only as a brief reprieve from the flood of enemies, but as a special attack as well.
