Super Jagger Bomb Switch NSP Free Download Romslab I grew up playing a batch of old, low budget Game Boy games, and one of them was a port of an old Tecmo arcade game called Bomb Jack. Despite the name, Bomb Jack wasn’t like Bomberman; instead of placing bombs to kill enemies, all you needed to do was collect bombs scattered on a small screen, all while avoiding enemies. I can’t say it was the most enticing of games, but due to the lack of games at my disposal back then, I have a soft spot for it. I played that game a lot. You might wonder why I’m talking about a random Tecmo game from 1984 at the start of this review, and the reason is simple: EastAsiaSoft’s brand new title, Super Jagger Bomb, is literally just another Bomb Jack, with nothing new added to the mix. Well, “nothing new” might be a bit harsh, as the biggest “innovation” featured in this title is its visuals. It’s fully polygonal, resembling one of those downloadable PSN games from back in the PS3 era, all while maintaining a somewhat steady framerate. It’s not very impressive. Sure, it looks cute at first, especially if you have any morsel of nostalgia towards Bomb Jack, but the visuals do get tiresome after a while, all due to one issue also featured on the original game: lack of background variety. After the fifth round, the background loops back to the first one. Five different backgrounds is all you’re getting in Super Jagger Bomb. And a chiptune soundtrack. A bland one at that.
Collect and disarm bombs as a caped superhero!
In the arcade original, you were tasked with clearing the screen of bombs from a repeating series of one-screen levels set across five distinctive backdrops from around the world. One bomb would be sparkling and when collected, another would then do the same. Get all of the sparkling bombs and you’d get a fat points bonus. But if you just wanted to progress, you could pick them up in any order. If anything it was like taking Pac-Man, as a top-down game, and holding it up so that gravity is a factor. The titular Bomb Jack could jump but also, by tapping the jump button, hover to a degree too, giving him a degree of horizontal movement. After Wave: Downfall Switch NSP

Of course, you needed bad guys too and Bomb Jack would slowly increase the number of enemies on screen, adding UFOs, soldiers, weird ball things, alien snails and whatever else to get in your way and rob you of your precious lives. You’re also getting the same gameplay loop, and the same power-ups, including one that momentarily transforms enemies in coins, the only way you can defend yourself against them. Still, somehow, Super Jagger Bomb feels worse to play than the original Bomb Jack, and that’s all due to its physics. Shockingly enough, the controls aren’t very good, all due to a slippery momentum mechanic added to your character’s movement.
Run, jump and air dash across platforming stages in retro 3D style.
You never feel like you’re in complete control of your unpowered superhero’s movement. At first, that’s not an issue, as the bombs are easy to collect and levels aren’t too cramped. Once you play a few dozen rounds, however, Super Jagger Bomb becomes an exercise in patience. In short (because there’s actually very little to talk about in this case), Super Jagger Bomb is just Bomb Jack with an average-at-best polygonal coat of paint. It plays just like a nearly forty year old game, with little to no interesting gameplay elements added to the mix. You might want to grab it if you have some sort of nostalgic feelings towards that Tecmo cult classic, but at the same time, if you do. Anti Hero Bundle Switch NSP

The original Bomb Jack is available on the Switch eShop. You probably own it already. Super Jagger Bomb isn’t terrible, just somewhat forgettable, with little to no appealing elements to make it stand out from the myriad of budget titles available on the Switch. So, why are we talking about the rules of Bomb Jack here? Because they all apply with Super Jagger Bomb. This is essentially a remake that uses all of the same gameplay elements as well as taking the idea of mixing and matching level layouts with a series of backdrops in the same was as the arcade classic did. However, there are differences and, if we’re being honest, not one of them really improves the game over the original.
Travel to locations around the globe, from ancient ruins to cityscapes!
Some of these are minor. Like how each level shows you the flow of the sparking bombs, giving you an idea of how to plan your route. This is an okay idea but it just slows down the action unnecessarily. You can crouch now but that’s only a factor on a couple of level layouts but it does make these levels, by far, the hardest ones just because the controls have a degree of inertia that makes navigating such things a little tricky. In Bomb Jack all enemies started off as little men who would turn into more deadly enemies when they hit the ground. You could manage them a little because they’d appear on the opposite side to where you were.

There’s none of that now. Enemies just appear in their final form. It’s just not quite as good. The main problem with Super Jagger Bomb however is the visuals. Bomb Jack was an elegant and beautiful game. The visuals were clean, colourful and bright and the backdrops were great. Indeed, the third backdrop in Bomb Jack (based on Castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria) is my favourite graphic in a game ever. In comparison, Super Jagger Bomb‘s locations are bland, forgettable and ugly. Also, they’ve added a degree of parallax scrolling which only serves to make the game harder to play. Add to that some very hard to see enemies. Apsulov: End of Gods Switch NSP
