In a recent video, the creator explained that it took him 7 years to make the game. The dedication to capturing his vision is clearly evident, and results in a visually stunning world that immerses players in the atmosphere of Monet’s art. The emotional storytelling of the game has to be celebrated too – the small nods to Monet’s life and inspirations of his work are beautiful. Feelings through time and space are conveyed through an intricate soundscape and score as you progress through the game, further enhancing the player experience.
The Master’s Pupil gives you time to consider each puzzle, with tests that will challenge your brain and not your reflexes.
You’ll be controlling a minimalist character with the left analog stick or the D-Pad as you jump with the A, B, X, or Y buttons…. and that’s it! You’ll be pushing some colorful yarn balls here and there to complete puzzles, but the controls are as simple as they can get so that you can focus on the puzzles and Monet’s paintings. Run left and right, and jump to overcome obstacles as you move from platform to platform. Color plays a big role in The Master’s Pupil. To be able to progress further through each of the 12 levels this game offers. You’ll have to use colors to remove barriers that stand in your way. Omega Labyrinth Life Switch NSP

You can do this by either bringing a yarn ball that matches that barrier’s color so that it tries to absorb it and is thus removed, or you can use your character as a blank canvas, absorbing the color from the colorful fumes you’ll find. The experience plays out as a 2D platformer, with the player’s only agency being movement and jumping. Select items can be pushed by running into them, but the platforming never gets more complex than that. Instead, The Master’s Pupil presents challenge in puzzles. Most of these revolve around bringing a colored object to a blockade of the same color.
you will experience the life of Claude Monet in a way that has never been done before.
This object could be a small ball that must be rolled through hazards, or even you yourself by mixing colors onto your character. For example, to get through a blue barrier you may need to coat yourself in a spout that sprays the color blue, without accidentally passing through another spraying red, lest you wind up purple. The diversity of challenging puzzles pulled from a relatively limited set of variables is truly impressive, and I never got bored with the puzzles or felt like I was repeating the same one. As you play, the story of Monet’s life is told entirely through subtext. The player is literally traversing the pupil of Monet’s eye, as he slowly loses his eyesight to the very barriers you’re desperately trying to circumvent. Some of The Master’s Pupil’s best moments are when by solving a puzzle, you are literally doing something to complete one of Monet’s paintings, through which you’ll traverse as you proceed through the game. At one point, I guided a large ball through a stage only to find at the very end that it had been the sun in one of Monet’s paintings.
almost every part of this game has been painstakingly made using a real paintbrush in real life before being imported to the world.
When The Master’s Pupil lands just right, it's remarkable. That being said, you’ll spend a lot of time in very similar environments. It makes sense given the context of the story being told, but it can make progress feel a bit less substantial. I also encountered several puzzles where I was able to move into an essentially unwinnable position, forcing me to restart the puzzle from the menu. Nonetheless, it is hard not to fall in love with what feels like an interactive, biographical art gallery. The ways in which Monet’s paintings are intertwined into levels only gets better as the game goes on, resulting in a simple but unique adventure.

Despite its breathtaking visuals, some players may find that The Master’s Pupil lacks a certain soulfulness. I found it difficult at times to connect with the story as I am not very well versed with Monet’s life and I don’t know any people personally that have studied fine art to appreciate the fascinating way this game translates his life but I am sure they are out there. In saying that, a more inclusive approach to introducing Monet’s artistry could have made the experience more accessible and engaging for a broader audience. Operate Now: Hospital Switch
